This story was inspired by the ‘Lord of the Rings’ scene where the Elfen princess, played by Liv Tyler, saves the hobbit while chased by riders on horseback.

The Elfen princess had her Lord lying over the back of her horse. They just needed to go another few hundred yards but the monsters had almost overtaken them, just a few yards behind.

Suddenly the princess’s horse seemed to collapse, hit by an arrow that never should have been able to reach them in the first place. Her protective-spell had failed! And she had tried so hard, doing all in her power, wanting to save her little lord with all her heart. She was willing to give all just to save him, no matter what.

As an Elfen princess, she had a little magic power over earthly matters, but not over other living beings, though she had some power over herself. She neither could influence the hunting monsters, nor her dying horse, nor her little Lord by casting a spell to save him.

Though she could perhaps change something, something that might save her little Lord, but it would cost her dearly. A high price to pay, but her little Lord was worth all she could give. What she would wish and make happen by casting a last spell would sacrifice her Elfen power and change her into a kind of human. That was the last thing she could do, she knew. And it would be for life, with no way to undo the spell!

Her horse was stumbling, falling further down with every step it took and eventually fell to the muddy sand of the stream. Reaching the stream meant she was on the border of her own land, and this was the moment to play her last ace, cast her spell.

With a few quick movements the beautiful princess grabbed the saddle from her dying horse and pulled it on her own back. Next she took the bridle and while she was whispering the words, she cast the last spell she would ever do, while buckling the leather straps of the bridle around her own head.

She knew exactly what would happen - as soon as she took the bit in her own mouth, she would transform irreversibly to a kind of human, a mixture of woman and the horse she would replace.

If she would have had a little more power over nature, she could have became the replacing horse herself completely, but this was the best she could do. She would become a human pony! Most of her own figure, the figure of a human, would remain, though she wouldn’t be just a human, but the ponygirl that would save her little Lord. There was no alternative, and there would no turning back. This was it, the moment of truth.

As soon as her jaws clenched the metal bit, she felt the horse rig, the saddle and bridle shrink and adjust to her body, tightening around her. Her dress slowly dissolved and vanished into thin air, while her arms, as on automatic, reached up in front of her now uncovered breasts. She knew she wouldn’t have any use of her hands anymore, her fingers started stretching out, stiffening into a semicircle form as if they were horses-hooves.

She became a prancing pony, standing on her hind-legs as a human, with her little Lord on her back in the saddle. The whole transformation had taken just seconds. Now it was her turn to run for the sake of his life, to carry him to safety.

With strength she didn’t know she had, or would have as a ponygirl, she went into a swift gallop and managed to keep them both out of the hands of the pursuers, the monster-herd. Finally, but only when the solid doors of the Elfen castle had closed behind the fugitives, the little ponygirl passed out, her strength used. They were safe!

She opened her eyes, not knowing how long she had been gone. The trusted and beloved vision of her father, the Elfen King, was the first thing she saw.

“You have been DISOBEDIENT!” “At least you are safe!” he continued only a second later.

“And I have saved my Lord!” she wanted to answer but there were no words coming from her lips, only a kind of horse's whinny.

“I might be able to turn back the spell, but would that be your choice?”

She knew what that meant, the time would be turned back to the moment she had decided and cast the spell. And her little Lord again would be in danger. Again she whinnied, ‘negative’, unmistakenly denying. ‘No, she didn’t want that choice, not again, she had made her choice already!’

“But then you will be a PONY-HUMAN for the rest of your life! Is that your choice?”

Excited whinnying was her answer ‘But my Lord is saved and I will be his pony!’

Her father could read her mind as if she spoke the words herself. “But.. have you any idea what humans do to their animals?” Her father asked, in a soft voice.

Another series of whinnies ‘Yes, ponies will be trained into obedience and behaviour!’ her whinnying became softer while she concentrated on her thoughts.

“So you will have yourself trained as an animal, by a human, by him?”

‘I am his pony. YES, I will feel how it will be as he loves me .. as his pony!’ Her whinnying became louder, more resolute and determined. ‘And yes, I want to be his only pony, but a pony anyway, treated as such! That’s what I am and will be for him. So please, don’t stop him from doing what he must. Let him use his whip and his spurs as he should, and I will serve! AS A PONY – HIS HUMAN-PONY! though prancing, upright as a humanoid, but a ponygirl nevertheless!’

Those last whinnies came out very determined and he could feel the message, couldn’t ignore her wish. She had made her choice, knowing she was happy with it.

And YES, her Lord was safe, just like her. The young human had only just started to realise what sacrifice she had made, not only giving up her Elfen power, but even taking it a step further then just becoming a human. She now was only humanoid in appearance but for all the rest she had become an animal, a ponygirl.

He had loved her when she had been an elf, unattainable for a human, but now it would be different. Now she would be at a distance in an other way, really attainable but unreachable on an other level. Though he would love her anyway. It was her he saw the first thing when opening his eyes, the most marvellous eyeblinding beauty he had ever seen, her hands held up to her breasts by kind of invisible force, fingers stretched out.

He reached out to her, pulled her near him on the bed. She groaned of joy when he caressed her body, touched her soft tender skin. This he never could have done when she had been an elf, now he could, love and pet her, caress her, make love. And so the morning passed. Until the Elfen king sent for him.

“Do you have any idea of the sacrifice my daughter has made on your behalf? Will you be worthy of that honour, love her and take good care of her? Though she partly looks human, another part of her is an anima. In time her thoughts will fade away into the basic thoughts of the animal she is. That part will take control and soon she won’t understand Elfen things or human thoughts. Love her as a human, but treat her as what she has become, she wouldn’t understand otherwise. So, get her rigged up, saddled! And take her for a ride, she will just love it! The danger is gone. Let her gallop, run and trot, and – most of all, make her happy!”
