This is a set of plans for the construction of a Pony Cart that can be constructed at home with ordinary tools and made from parts that are readily available from a local hardware store.
The wheels and seat are the only special parts and they are available from the Northern Tool and Equipment Co. (www.NorthernTool.com). The wheels are part number 145123 and the seat is part number 174401. These parts cost about $100.00 US. The rest of the cart is made from 3/4 inch galvanized steel pipe, the kind used for water supply lines and is in the plumbing department of most hardware stores. One other part is needed and that is a 3/4 inch round steel rod, 36 inches long. This is for the axle. This also would be found in the hardware store, however, it may be a little harder to find and may have to be special ordered. Some smaller parts will be described in the plans.
This cart is rather small, 3 feet by 7.5 feet, and light in weight and the wheels are 26 inches in diameter. This will make the cart easy to pull and afford longer and more enjoyable pony time for both driver and pony. Also, the cart is designed to be disassembled for transportation. I think the whole thing should fit in the trunk (Sir Jeff would say boot) of a mid sized car.
The first picture is of a side view of the cart and the second is of the top view. This is to give an overall view and so a builder would understand the relationships of the parts which will be described in detail in later pages.
